The month-long residencies are a collaboration between Ocula and the Austrian art association Salzburger Kunstverein.
Salzburger Kunstverein was founded in 1844 to ‘awaken love for art’, and this initiative aims to promote artistic research and foster discourse within the Salzburg art scene. The partnership reflects both Ocula’s and Salzburger Kunstverein’s commitment to supporting art writing.
During the month-long programme, writers can pursue their own research and projects, and they are also invited to produce two texts related to Salzburger Kunstverein’s programme. The two texts will be paid for and published by Ocula, a platform that shares Salzburg Kunstverein’s goal of supporting the best of contemporary art and art writing.
Selected applicants will be provided with a studio apartment, a scholarship of EUR 900, access to a bicycle and health insurance, and mentorship and networking opportunities.
All applications must include a summary of relevant educational and professional experience and three writing samples—such as articles or exhibition texts dating from the last two years—attached as a single PDF or Word document. Submissions must be in English. Additionally, applicants should specify their availability for a full month between March and August 2024.
Applications must be submitted to info@salzburger-kunstverein.at with the subject line ‘Writer-in-Residence’ by 4 January 2024. Materials must be received by 4 January 2024 to be considered.
The winning writers will be selected by a jury comprising Ocula Editorial Director Anna Dickie, Salzburger Kunstverein Director Mirela Baciak, and writer Kate Sutton. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
