This exhibition took place at our previous Coda Designer Centre, Hong Kong location.
Maekawa was a prominent member of the Gutai Art Association. He creates works by freely manipulating pieces of burlap and sewed the material into complex waveforms. By pouring enamel paint over the surface, an abstract image is created which transcends the flatness of traditional paintings. In the mid 70s Maekawa developed a lighter, more refined style in which he tried to bring out the distinctive features of the fabric without applying too much paint. In this exhibition we are going to show works from late 70s, which represent this shift from vigorous colour-based work to delicate fabric-based expressions
