TYCJAN KNUT

“On Formality” explores formal thinking pushed beyond the square and the expected frame. Stepping outside traditional formats, Tycjan Knut breaks the relationship between figure and background through custom-shaped canvases that resist completion and balance. Alongside this, a new series emerges: paintings built from overlapping, ultra-thin airbrushed lines, developed through a process closer to textile construction than gesture, where form is woven rather than drawn.

The works were created over months spent in isolation in the Polish countryside, in a village called Dry Forest, without internet access. This distance from distraction allowed a concentrated engagement with structure, restraint, and the quiet tension between control and dissolution.
