FRIEZE LONDON 2025

Highlights from the booth include a new work by London-based artist Gabriella Boyd (b. 1988, Glasgow, UK). In her practice, Gabriella Boyd explores the space between abstraction and figuration, using representative motifs and gestural mark-making between layers of vibrant oil paint. She envisions embodied experiences, speculative and dream-like forms that appear both abstract and anatomical at the same time. Boyd will have an upcoming solo exhibition at GRIMM, Amsterdam (NL), opening this December.

The booth will also feature new works by Czech artist Anna Ruth (b. 1994, Melník, CZ), who will make her Frieze debut this year. Ruth’s paintings often root themselves in emotion and transformation, exploring the human condition through dreamlike symbolic imagery and hauntingly sensorial environments. Similarly concerned with elements of space and the natural world, Dutch artist Robert Zandvliet (b. 1970, Terband, NL) will exhibit new paintings, his virtuosic abstractions frame the interplay between light and shadow, introspection and observation; themes prevalent in his latest works.

New paintings by Manchester-based artists Louise Giovanelli (b. 1993, London, UK) and Tommy Harrison (b. 1996, Stockport, UK) will also feature on this year’s booth. Giovanelli’s major touring institutional solo exhibition, A Song of Ascents, which opened at The Hepworth Wakefield (UK), has recently been on view at the HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark, Graz (AT), where it will later travel to Museum Villa Stuck in Munich (DE) this October. Her vision continues to encompass and weave a chorus of visual narratives extracted from photographs, film stills, and architectural details into luminous and theatrical visual compositions. Informed also by historical and classical references, Tommy Harrison’s canvases present a myriad of overlapping motifs. Delicately captured from his immediate surroundings, these new works eloquently frame the mishap of the everyday alongside figures taken from religious iconography, severing objects from their referent. Harrison creates a warped dissonance that emanates a visual intensity of the peculiar. This November, Harrison will have a solo exhibition at Iris Art Museum in Suzhou, (CN), a new GRIMM publication will be published to accompany his exhibition. New works by Norfolk-based artist Jonathan Wateridge (b. 1972, Lusaka, ZM), who had his first solo exhibition with GRIMM, London (UK) earlier this year, will also be presented. Wateridge’s distinctive vision combines high-modern formalism with echoes of cinematic, evoking feelings of disquiet and uncertainty. Exploring similar powerful intersubjective dynamics between figures and the convergence of forms, renowned German painter Daniel Richter (b. 1962, Eutin, DE), will also exhibit works.

Additional works include a new painting by Angela Heisch (b. 1989, Auckland, NZ), following her exhibition at GRIMM, Amsterdam (NL) earlier this year; new works by Anders Davidsen (b. 1987, Mariagerfjord, DK) who will have a solo exhibition at the New York gallery, opening in November; Glasgow-based artist Fischer Mustin (b. 1999, London, UK), who will make his debut at Frieze; new works by Irish artist Ciarán Murphy (b. 1978, Mayo, IE); works by Belgian artist Dirk Braeckman (b.1958, Eeklo, BE); new work by American artist Eric White (b. 1968 Ann Arbor, MI, US); new paintings by Rafał Topolewski (b. 1983, Grudziadz, PL) and American artist Liza Jo Eilers (b. 1993, St. Paul, MN, US) in tandem with their solo shows, Smoulder and Starland Silver Sash on view until November 1, 2025 at GRIMM, New York, NY (US).

This selection emphasises the gallery’s commitment to promoting the work of emerging, mid-career and established artists across its programme. Highlighting its expansion beyond its Dutch foundations to represent an eclectic mix of artists working across the UK, US and Europe. This year, GRIMM celebrates the opening of a new gallery space in London at 43a Duke Street, St James’s with a presentation by German artist Matthias Weischer (b. 1973 in Elte, DE).
