Press Release

P21 will present Keem Jiyoung’s solo exhibition With Night’s Nape Between Our Jaw from August 29 to October 12.Throughout her practice, Keem Jiyoung has consistently addressed the sources of recurring violence and the structuralproblems within society, connecting these issues to individual survival. She stays vigilant against the spectacles that distortsubjects through symbolic imagery in reaction to this she is dedicated to documenting reality through her works. Herapproach to reimagining the world can be described as a montage, created through diverse forms and variations.

Keem Jiyoung’s fifth solo exhibition, With Night’s Nape Between Our Jaws, presents the ‘Wrath, Tidal’ series, consisting ofsix acrylic and oil pastel pieces. As the title suggests, this new work reflects the tumultuous forces of nature and thelinguistic power to confront reality. It is both destructive and poetic. The text fragments that precede the images cometogether to form syllables and then sentences. Keem prominently incorporates text and consistently builds on the narrativethroughout her works. The words do not dissipate, remaining clear and enduring, needing no further interpretation orsubtext.
