STATION is delighted to be participating in Frieze Seoul 2024 with a presentation of works by Nadia Hernández, Nell, Tomislav Nikolic and Tom Polo.
Returning to Frieze Seoul after a successful showing in 2023, Polo will share a series of paintings that continue to push contemporary portraiture. Polo's distinctive style of abstracted figuration is rendered in expansive fields of colour and partially obscured and fragmented figures. Nikolic's vibrant and geometric works draw on the essence and potency of colour. Through these layers, his colour field works have a reflective element that enables the viewer to partake in their radiance, offset by his customised frames. Hernández's paintings are informed by her experience as a Venezuelan woman living in Australia. She negotiates complex narratives, weaving the personal and the political to create a highly recognisable visual language expressed through colourful illustrations and poetic text. Nell's interdisciplinary practice explores oppositional thresholds. From an Australian vantage point, she uses the language of art history, popular culture and spiritual traditions to amplify or challenge these tensions so that new objects, which are both playful and intriguing, emerge.
