Press Release

In this online-only exhibition, we navigate the liminal space between the past and contemporary spirit through the work of Lulama Wolf. Her practice functions as a rhythmic interrogation of history, moving beyond simple representation into an exploration of the essence of form.

The story begins with the materiality of the earth. Wolf’s technique is a tactile prayer; she uses pigmented sand and acrylic to build surfaces that mimic the weathered walls of the domestic and the sacred.

These textures are not merely decorative but are archival bearers of generational memory, of women who used the earth to mark their presence. They evoke gestures of care, labour, and ritual; acts often overlooked yet deeply embedded in cultural continuity. Through this material language, Wolf bridges personal and collective histories, grounding abstraction in lived experience.

Geometric forms emerge and recede, suggesting both architectural frameworks and spiritual thresholds. There is a quiet insistence here, as if each layer carries the residue of time itself. In this way, her work resists fixed interpretation, instead inviting viewers into a contemplative encounter with memory as something fluid and evolving.

Wolf offers a space of reflection, where the past is not static but continuously reimagined, and where the act of making becomes a form of remembering.
