Whitestone Gallery Beijing is pleased to announce the forthcoming group exhibition ‘Boundless Forms and Colours’ scheduled from December 21, 2024, to February 8, 2025. This exhibition will feature artists from China, Japan, and Korea, uniting the remarkable works of six distinguished artists: Yasuo Sumi (Japan), Bao Pei, Yu Li, Li Wei & Liu Zhiyin, Jiang Miao, and Lee Chae (Korea). Each artist delves into the infinite extensions and possibilities of ‘Form’ and ‘Color’ through their distinct artistic styles and creative methods, showcasing a rich diversity rooted in their various cultural backgrounds.
Within this exhibition, Yasuo Sumi, a prominent figure of the Gutai Art Movement, skilfully blends mathematical logic with the spontaneous expression of art, broadening the boundaries of form. Bao Pei combines printmaking and oil painting to translate personal memories and emotions into intricate and profound visual narratives. Yu Li employs ‘炁’ (Qi) ink as a medium, seamlessly integrating traditional and contemporary elements to develop a unique painting language imbued with philosophical musings and natural cadences. Starting from ‘Form’, Li Wei & Liu Zhiyin delve deeper into the understanding and reinterpretation of traditional Eastern imagery, thereby exploring new sculptural contexts and meanings. Jiang Miao reveals layered spatial and temporal realms through knife-carving techniques, while Lee Chae, centring on blue, conveys serenity and rejuvenation through meditative creations, highlighting the profound essence of nature and life.
‘Form’ and ‘Colour’ not only serve as fundamental components of visual expression but also act as conduits through which artists explore culture, nature, and personal experiences. ‘Boundless Forms and Colours’ investigates the harmonies of Eastern aesthetics across diverse cultural landscapes through an array of artistic expressions. From improvisational abstract gestures to contemporary interpretations of traditional philosophies, and from nuanced emotional depictions to profound reflections on nature, this exhibition encapsulates the breadth and depth of artistic exploration and cultural dialogue.
