YUKO MOHRI
b. 1980, JapanYuko Mohri is an installation artist. Her kinetic sculptures, using reconfigured everyday objects and machine parts, highlight various facets coming from the encounter between objects and invisible energies such as magnetism, gravity, wind, or light. She authorises uncontrollable and nonhuman elements to conduct within their networks, which are often compared to a self-contained ‘ecosystem’, incessantly channeling the surrounding environment.
Mohri’s photographs are a kind of ‘photographic fieldwork’ that continue to inspire her ongoing series of Moré Moré (Leaky) installations. For the 23rd Biennale of Sydney, Mohri has again looked to these photographs for her new site-specific installation at Pier 2/3 using found objects and everyday materials to respond to the architecture and surrounding water ecologies.
