Fritz Winter was a pioneer of abstraction. He studied at the Bauhaus, was a founding member of the artist group ZEN 49 and he blazed the trail for artistic silk-screen printing in Germany. Based on his early Bauhaus works, Winter developed his own vocabulary of form which distinguished him from other Informel artists. Again and again, he took up traditional pictorial elements and thoroughly analysed nature with all its destructive and creative power.
