The singularity of Gérard Bakner’s work stems from his journey and his path. Magician recognized in France, G. Bakner decided in 2012 to transpose the magic show by creating paintings with unexpected, even inexplicable effects. By adapting mathematical formulas, optical illusions and magical effects to his creations, he brings a unique and original dimension to the landscape of today’s contemporary art. In 2015, during the exhibition Black is Back, his work received the congratulations of ORLAN as well as the attentive gaze of Christine Macel (chief curator of the Centre Pompidou) among other representatives of major French institutions. Very recently, Yoyo Maeght also saluted the originality of his work.
G. Bakner exhibited alongside works by Victor Vasarely and one of his works was in the office of Yves Carcelle (first president of Louis Vuitton Foundation for Contemporary Art).
G. Bakner has exhibited in Paris, Blois, Brussels, New York, Busan (South Korea) and recently in Maastricht. Several of his works have entered prestigious private collections and national museums. The Opéra National de Paris has included two of his works in the program of one of its ballets.
