HECTOR TJUPURU BURTON
1937-2017, AustraliaHector Tjupuru Burton (c. 1937 – 2017) was a senior Pitjantjatjara lawman, religious minister and community leader. Among the first senior men to paint at Minymaku Arts, Burton’s practice was inseparable from teaching: in later years Burton brought his grandsons into Tjala Arts to pass on Anumara Tjukurpa directly. In 2011 he encouraged young men, mostly his grandsons, into Tjala Arts to teach them Anumara Tjukurpa, painting alongside them as part of an intergenerational exchange.
