Issay Kitagawa Biography

Graduated 1987 from the University of Tsukuba. In 2024, Kitagawa won the 26th Yusaku Kamekura Design Award for his art project KAMIZU. In 2004, a number of his works were added to the permanent collection of the National Library of France as recent books featuring outstanding printing and design. In 2008 he exhibited as a graphic artist at the Frieze Art Fair; in 2009, staged a solo exhibition at Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg); in 2011, was selected one of 15 artists for the contemporary Japanese graphic design exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris; and in 2018, exhibited as part of the unit GRAPH+kousou Inc at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. He is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale), and has won numerous awards including the ADC, TDC, and JAGDA Newcomer Awards; has served as a juror for international awards including the NY ADC and D&AD Awards; and has appeared on television programs such as NHKʼs New Business Legends: Luzon no Tsubo and TV Tokyoʼs Cambria Palace
