Kustiyah was known in her daily life as a gentle person, a contrast to her paintings. Though filled with angular lines and rough strokes brushtrokes, her works radiates joy. Through this distinctive artistic approach, the painter, who was active since the mid 1950s, depicted the world around
her, transforming familiar and modest landscapes into vivid expressions brimming with movement and energy. Kustiyah’s journey as a painter began at ASRI, Sanggar Pelukis Rakyat (People’s Painters Studio), as well as Pelukis Indonesia (Indonesian Painters). She also once served as chairperson of IKAISYO.
