LEE Joon ( 1919 - 2021 ), a pioneer of Korean abstract painting, embodied harmony and rhythmic movements in his paintings that overflow with vibrant colours. He intuitively expressed the inspiration he received from nature through his art. The delicate texture of lines and colour planes, along with their reflective system, in the development of composition captures the mysterious order of nature. By combining autonomous and pure rhythmic colours within the organised structure formed by geometric screen divisions, the artist presented subtly poetic and profound, lyrical colour abstraction . The artist’s spirit and passion to capture life are evident in the numerous overlapping, intersecting, and parallel colour planes in his works.
LEE’s major retrospective exhibitions were held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (Seoul, Korea) and the Gyeongnam Art Museum (Changwon, Korea) .
