Miru Kim is a conceptual performance artist who has explored various urban ruins such as abandoned subway stations, tunnels, sewers, catacombs, factories, hospitals, and shipyards. Her latest body of work took her to remote regions of the Sahara and Gobi deserts, where she disguised herself as a man in order to travel anonymously with local nomads and ultimately create this series f exquisite photographs.
She was featured as one of America’s Best and Brightest 2007 in Esquire magazine. Her work has been spotlighted in countless other international media such as The New York Times, TED.com, The Financial Times, ARTE France, Ovation TV, Time Out New York, The Korea Daily, and the Korea Herald, among others. Public collections of her work include, Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art and Hana Bank. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries and museums worldwide such as Gallery HYUNDAI in Seoul, Queens Museum of Art in New York, National Museum of Visual Art in Montevideo, Coreana Museum in Seoul, and the Lodz Biennale in Poland.
A graduate of Columbia University and Pratt Institute, Miru was born in 1981 and was raised in Seoul, Korea. She currently lives and works in New York City.
