Born in Rome, 1978. Lives and works in Rome. Pietro Ruffo explores the ambivalent social and cultural resonances surrounding fundamental themes as freedom, democracy and political identity. Ruffo’s practice reflects his intense social and moral concerns. Working with diverse media including painting, drawing, watercolour and sculpture, he creates intricate and meticulously-detailed objects which demand an intense manual process for their making, and attentive observation from the viewer. His work disguise behind the complexity of their form and the complexity of the subject matter he addresses.Ruffo’s work has been exhibited internationally, including solo and group presentations in Rome, Berlin, Paris, London, New York, and Moscow. His work is part of the collections of the MAXXI, Rome; MACRO, Rome; Mambo Bologna; Deutsche Bank Collection, Frankfurt; Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Rome; Fondazione Giuliani, Rome; Depart Foundation, Rome and Los Angeles; Fondazione Guastalla, Lugano; Lodeveans Collection, London.Ruffo has been commissioned special set designs, installations, and costumes for major fashion companies: in 2015 he created a special outdoor installation in Piazza di Spagna to celebrate the new Valentino flagship store in Rome, followed by a performance and installation in Miami. He also designed the stage set for Dior’s anniversary celebrations in Paris in 2017, starting an on going collaboration with Maria Grazia Chiuri, the maison’s creative director.
