Nguyen Quang Huy was born in Ha Tay in 1971 and studied at the Hanoi Fine Arts University as well as participating in residencies in Germany, Australia and the USA. The countries in Southeast Asia have a multitude of ethnicities inhabiting their lands. Well known are the so-called 'highland' people or ethnic minorities residing in the mountainous areas. One such ethnic group is the Hmong people who inhabits parts of the mountainous range in Northern Vietnam. Their population also stretches into the neighbouring countries such as Laos and Thailand. A well known area for the Hmong in Vietnam is Lao Cai with Sapa as its centre which has a cool climate and is often clouded in fog and mist. The artist Nguyen Quang Huy has traveled there many times over the years and gotten to know the landscape, people and their ways of life. A tangible result is the current exhibition of landscapes and people residing in the Sapa area. His paintings reflect the misty dreamlike coolness of the mountains and cultural aspects and the beauty of the Hmong girls.
Huy has staged solo exhibitions in Vietnam, Germany, France, and Singapore, and participated in several exhibitions internationally, including group shows in Singapore, Germany, France, Japan, USA, Finland, Thailand, Australia, the Netherlands, and United Kingdom. His works are included in the permanent collection of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan and the World Bank Art Program, USA.
