Sam Harrison graduated with a Bachelor of Art & Design from the CPIT School of Art & Design, in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2006. That same year he won the Mortlock McCormack Art Award, the Farina Thompson Drawing Award and a work was acquired for the Will Cummings Memorial Collection, Christchurch.
Sam Harrison sculpts in plaster and concrete and prints intricately detailed wood cuts, often large scale. These mediums are used to create striking portraits and figure studies which are meticulously crafted and show an empathy and engagement with his models. He explores ideals of beauty and form, and is modern in the gesture and expressionist modelling in his works. Harrison is represented in private and public collections in New Zealand and Australia.
