Séverin Guelpa Biography

Séverin Guelpa is a contemporary visual artist living and working in Geneva. His practice focuses on fragile and threatened territories where tensions between nature, resources, economy, and human survival are most visible. Through an immersive and sensory approach, Guelpa transforms landscape into material and material into language. Working at the intersection of artistic gesture and field research, he explores extreme environments—such as deserts, glaciers, and industrial zones—collecting images, sounds, and raw materials that are later integrated into large-scale installations.

His work examines the relationship between nature and culture, fragility and power, and invites viewers to physically experience space through sculpture, installation, architecture, and immersive film.

Since 2014, his work has been presented internationally, including at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Museu do Amanhã (Rio de Janeiro), and several international biennials. Trained in political science, he later earned a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from HEAD–Geneva and regularly lectures and leads workshops worldwide.

Fabienne Levy, Lausanne/Geneva/Zurich.
