Sriyani had a passion for drawing and painting from an early age, encouraged by her grandmother and mother, before pursuing formal art education at the Balai Pendidikan Universiter Guru Gambar (University Centre for Drawing Education), in Bandung. Keen to broaden her cultural horizons, she also studied film at Perfini. Over her lfietime, she travelled, painted, and exhibited internationally, from Thailand to Russia. Her works range from landscapes and still lifes to female figures and animals. Among her distinctive practices are her black-and-white paintings and monotype prints on rice paper, for which she is best remembered.
