Vipeksha Gupta (b.1989, New Delhi, India) is an Indian visual artist who produces pigment art by blending graphite, charcoal and pigments on hot press Fabriano paper. Throughout her career, she has experimented with geometric modernism, abstract expressionism, minimalism, suprematism and ultimately selected abstract art as her preferred from of expression. She is influenced by both the Western world and the South Asian landscape, drawing inspiration from artists Richard Serra, Barnett Newman and Josef Albers as well as being inspired by ‘the mysticism of India and the Far East.’
After years of experimentation and thought, Gupta has reversed her process by focusing on “the light in the dark”. She considers that her works are imbued with their own luminosity as they present smoothed out layers forming intriguing hues inviting its viewers to enter a meditative state. As per the artist, this creates a metaphysical shared experience where the artist and viewers simultaneously tap into their human consciousness.
Gupta holds a bachelor in History from Lady Sri Ram College in New Delhi in 2010. She then studied and worked as an artist at the community studios of Triveni Kala Sagam in New Delhi in 2017. She had already started paving her way into the art world and being acknowledged for the talent winning the Drawing Award at the 88th Annual Art Exhibition in New Delhi in 2015 and in 2017.
