Born in 1964 in the Jinan Province, China, Wang Gang now lives and works in Paris and is a member of La Maison des Artistes de France. He exhibits widely in Europe and Asia and his works form part of several prestigious collections world wide.
The artist’s figurative paintings evoke a feeling of nostalgia and serenity with the protagonists often in a dreamlike state of meditative contemplation. Not only are his themes inspiring – ‘Au mirroir” “Masque” but his technique is masterly crafted to create wonderful textures and moods. Inspired by both the East and West, his paintings are a poetic fusion of Western oil painting and the Eastern wash technique. The artist achieves an almost antique feel to his canvases by layering thin paint to achieve a patina like finish on the surface of the canvas. His portraits have a wonderful feeling of innocence and simplicity of a by gone era.
