Known for her bold colours and sumptuous brushstrokes, Wu Shuang is an emerging artist that works on themes of anthropocentrism and nature, the subjects in her paintings are human-centred and nature-inspired. Often implied with pain, melancholy and self-sabotaging, the state of mind of Wu’s subjects is visible through titles of her works. Although her new body of work created most recently is applied with Wu’s signature fluorescent colour palette, her subjects seem to be more free and celebrating.
Born in 1986 in Chongqing, China, Wu Shuang studied at Kassel University in Germany, and obtained her Bachelor Degree in Oil Painting from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, and Master Degree in Engraving from Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. From 2017 – 2019 she has collaborated with Mercedes-Benz China International Fashion Week, and her work was shown at New York Times Square LED billboard in 2021. The artist currently works and lives in Beijing.
