Every dull moment (EDM) by visual artist Jonathan Zawada and musician Flume has been created especially for the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ monumental Tank space as part of Volume, a pioneering music series pushing the limits of sound and live performance.

A sensory explosion of imagery and sounds, the installation draws on Zawada’s and Flume’s experiences of performing at international festivals that centre around EDM (electronic dance music).

The work embodies a constant state of reinvention and movement. Built around short visual, lighting and laser-based pieces with accompanying musical compositions, it shifts between a series of randomised 10- to 90-second sequences.

Staged away from the typical stadium or outdoor field environment, and with no human interaction or live performance, Every dull moment (EDM) is devoid of its original context. Instead, Zawada and Flume share a series of fragmented moments that delve into the presence and purpose of the festival form. About the Gallery
The Art Gallery of NSW is one of the most beautiful art museums in the world, set over 5 levels within stunning parklands overlooking Sydney harbour. The museum houses extensive collections of Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art alongside world-class collections of European masters, Asian art and international contemporary art. In addition to the permanent collection, the AGNSW has a vibrant temporary exhibition program, including major international touring shows and flagship annual exhibitions such as the Archibald Prize and ART EXPRESS.

The AGNSW also manages the Brett Whitley Studio, the artist's former workplace and home in the inner-city suburb of Surry Hills. The studio offers an intimate insight in to the art and life of one of Australia's most celebrated artists.
