Pearl Lam Galleries has announced a new gallery space that will open in Shanghai's former French Concession on 6 November.
Named 70 Square Metres, the gallery will be dedicated to solo shows for a series of international artists in residence, whose stays will last one to three months. Pearl Lam Galleries will provide each artist with a studio, accommodation, visa assistance, flights, and budget for food, materials, and production costs.
American painter Moses Hamborg will be the first resident. Other residents will include Nigerians Yusuff Aina and Samuel Nnorom, Japan's Chisato Matsumoto and Arashi Tanaka, and Ghana's Emmanuel Kwaku Yaro.
'By welcoming artists from various countries, disciplines, and stages in their careers, we create a vibrant environment where ideas and perspectives flourish,' Lam said in a statement.
'We provide residents with the time, space, and resources they need to dive deeply into their work, explore new mediums, and create innovative and expressive works,' she said.
The new residency builds on a residency programme Pearl Lam Galleries established in 2005 and later discontinued. —[O]
