Twenty New York galleries will feature among the 61 exhibitors at the inaugural Photofairs New York from 8 to 10 September.
The show runs in tandem with The Armory Show at the Javits Center. It will focus on photo-based and digital artworks.
Among the leading local spaces taking part are Howard Greenberg Gallery—which has presented works by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, and Edward Burtynsky—and Robert Mann Gallery, one of the first photography galleries to move to Chelsea.
Others with interesting niches include: The Music Photo Gallery, which seeks to establish music photography as fine art; Staley-Wise Gallery, which explores the intersection of fashion photography and contemporary art through artists such as David LaChapelle; and bitforms, which focuses on art and new technology.
In addition to those from New York, galleries from more than 20 cities worldwide will partipate in Photofairs New York.
These include London’s Atlas Gallery and Huxley-Parlour, Xinjiang’s Gaotai Gallery, Mexico City’s Troconi-Letayf & Campbell, and 193 Gallery and Les filles du calvaire from Paris.
Galleries exploring the metaverse through new media works and NFTs include Artwrld and Bryce Wolkowitz.
‘Our commitment to integrating exhibitors across distinct mediums for the inaugural edition enables our audience to discover new technologies and rediscover photography’s rich history’, said Photofairs New York Director Helen Toomer.
Alongside the booths, the fair will present special projects with partners including Fotografiska, Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York, and Jamaica Art Society. —[O]
