Lehmann Maupin is ‘thrilled’ to announce the representation of Madrid-based artist Teresa Solar Abboud.
The move comes as she prepares for an upcoming public sculpture commission for London’s Hayward Gallery, following a year of major institutional projects, including a celebrated site-specific installation for New York’s High Line and solo exhibitions at CA2M in Madrid and MACBA in Barcelona.
Solar Abboud—known for her inventive sculptural forms that hover between the fantastical and the mechanical—brings a practice spanning sculpture, drawing, and video to the gallery, with work such as the vibrant yellow, modular petals of Birth of Islands (High Line, 2024), and the undulating, propeller-like Crushed by Pressure.
Meanwhile, Debris (2017) reveals both a playful sense of scale and a fascination with transformation and material tension. Her forms hint at bodies, machines, and alien landscapes, evoking a world where the synthetic and organic meet.
Lehmann Maupin co-founder Rachel Lehmann said the gallery was thrilled to have Solar Abboud join its roster. ‘We have a long history of championing artists who push the limits of materiality and create new visual languages. Teresa’s work is visceral, bold, and uniquely imaginative,’ she said.
Solar Abboud’s newly released monograph accompanies her touring exhibition Bird Dream Machine, currently at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin through to October 2025. Looking ahead, she will stage her first solo shows with Lehmann Maupin in London and New York, previewing her work in New York in April 2026 before debuting in London that September. —[O]
