Following soaring auction results at both Sotheby’s and Christie’s last week, paintings by Flora Yukhnovich at Victoria Miro are set to receive equally high demand.
The artist’s painting Warm, Wet ‘N’ Wild (2020) sold for over 13 times its high estimate at Sotheby’s The Now Evening Auction on 2 March, following another record price at Christie’s, as reported by Ocula News earlier this week.
The results reflect Yukhnovich’s rise as one of the world’s hottest young painters. In her solo exhibition Thirst Trap at Victoria Miro, the artist shifts away from her reimaginations of late Baroque Rococo painting to consider depictions of the Roman goddess Venus.
In these new paintings, Venus’s ‘ever-shifting presence in culture’ is rendered through fluid, near-abstract canvases.
