Press Release
After Zou Sijin’s solo project, A Thousand Plateaus Art Space is going to present the emerging artist Bi Rongrong’s solo project Tri-Images—A Drawing Being Produced. As a young artist who spans over multiple domains, Bi Rongrong has obtained much attention by her concise and accurate creative form. Tri-Images is not the tranditional triptych, but the combination of drawing, painting and on-site installation that based on the first two. The exhibited works this time were inspired by various images collected on her travels; in an age full of fragmented images, Bi Rongrong paints or sketches the image landscape in the way of material collecting. She integrates those elements from different time and space with personal hypothesis. Compared with the traditional paintings, these works are closer to the acquisition and regeneratvie processes. Therefore, she emphasises the word ‘produce’, but actually Bi Rongrong’s work has already began to explore the new forms of visual language and drawing methods.

About the Artist

Born in 1982 in Ningbo and lives and works in Shanghai. In recent years, when visiting a city, Bi kept collecting images of local cities, such as the ornamental patterns of architectures, and through manual or digital processing, she has transformed them into a variety of mix media works including painting, collage, fabrics, video and site-specific installation. In her works, the applied fragmented patterns lose the original context and appear as another abstract forms, to transform the space into a pictorial landscape.
