Press Release

Throughout history, many artists worldwide have used their talent to speak about immigration. Nge Lay emigrated to France after the 2021 coup d’état in Myanmar. A2Z ART GALLERY is proud to present Nge Lay’s solo exhibition_Beautifully Thorned Path_, where she showcases her latest artworks that recall her turbulent journey during which she kept repeating the poignant question:

‘Could I continue my life as a full-time artist with this situation in the future?’

Through this exhibition, Nge Lay exposes the difficulties and complexities of the daily lives of Burmese refugees, as well as her own. Her work underlines not only her ambitions for herself and her family, but also for those who suffer from the same situation. Beautifully thorned path gives voice to Nge Lay and other political immigrants. The artist uses various media such as painting, sculpture, textiles and leather, which she meticulously weaves together to create works filled with hidden symbols. Thus, through her art, we can witness part of her intimate memories and the different paths she has taken, while catching a glimpse of her history and current situation.
