With Tension à trois corps : Tellurique, Inerte, Cosmique (Tension of Three Bodies: Telluric, Inert, Cosmic), Émeric Chantier continues his exploration of the complex and intimate relationship that connects human beings to their environment. Since his earliest series, the artist has developed a sculptural practice situated at the boundary between the living and the manufactured, bringing natural materials, industrial elements, and organic forms into dialogue to question our place within the natural world.
This new series brings together three dimensions: the telluric, the inert, and the cosmic, three forces that meet, confront one another, and respond to each other.
The telluric refers to the earth and the primordial forces of life. Organic and corporeal forms appear to emerge from this raw material, like fragments of an ancient memory, evoking the shared origins of all life.
In contrast, the manufactured inert embodies the human desire to shape, organise, and control its environment. As in his previous works, the artist places the natural and the artificial side by side, not seeking to oppose them in a simplistic way, but rather to reveal the relationships and tensions that bind them together.
A third dimension enters this earthly dialogue: the cosmic. Gold, a material born from stellar processes, becomes here a universal symbolic link between these different forms of matter. It introduces a sense of elevation into the works, opening the narrative towards a space that extends beyond the human scale.
Through this new series, Émeric Chantier offers a sensitive reflection on our interdependence with the world around us. From the terrestrial to the manufactured, from the body to matter, and from matter to the cosmos, Tension à trois corps presents a vision in which everything may appear fragmented, yet each element remains profoundly connected to the others.
