Alisan Fine Arts is pleased to announce the new exhibition Hung Keung: Digital Media Art Installation at our Aberdeen Gallery. The exhibition officially opens to the public starting from 4 November 2023, marking Alisan's first solo exhibition for the artist.
Hung Keung, a renowned digital media installation artist from Hong Kong and grantee of Asian Cultural Council Award (2005), is known for his interactive installations that combine film, video, and digital new media with themes from Chinese classical philosophy, art, and literature. This exhibition showcases Hung's latest works from three of his iconic creation, including two groups with flowers and Chinese characters as the main themes—the multi-channel video Four Seasons: Extended Time Series and the vibrant digital moving images Grain Rain Series. The imagery depicts mist, flowers, charcoal, and rice paper transitioning from vibrancy to decay through ink variations. The dancing Chinese characters respond to these subtle changes, suggesting the relationship between the nature and the passage of time. V.1 of Four Seasons has been collected by Hong Kong Museum of Art.
Another significant artwork on display is the meditative digital video installation Purifying and Integrating. Hung Keung captures the image of a seated Buddha ink painting using a high-speed digital camera, intertwining it with shadows, light, and technology to create a unique sense of space and ambiguity. Still images gained the finalist of Sovereign Asian Art Prize, 2018. Limited edition prints of flowers and ink paintings of Buddha are also exhibited.
Featured in multiple important exhibitions part of the artworks (V.1 & 2.) have been showcased in various significant exhibitions in Hong Kong and mainland, including: Four Seasons (V.2) at New Rhythm of Line: Contemporary Hong Kong Ink Art, curated by Prof Tang Hoi-Chiu, Hong Kong City Hall, 2022; Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong Hong Kong Macau from 2000 to 2022, travelling exhibition curated by Prof Pi Daojian, Macau Museum of Art, Macau, 2022; Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, 2020-2021; (V.1) at Fluid Boundaries, curated by Wang Boqiao, Tencent Beijing headquarter, Beijing, 2020.
