For Drawing Now 2026, Alzueta Gallery presents an exhibition in which drawing becomes a key field of exploration and formal synthesis. Here, snow runs through the entire project as a central motif and finds its most precise and refined expression in drawing. Klas Ernflo, Jon Koko and Hugo Alonso share a common economy of means and a desire to get to the heart of the matter, each from their own unique perspective.

In recent years, Klas Ernflo has expanded his practice to include colour pencil drawings on paper. Already evident in the fine lines that define the forms in his oil paintings, this approach allows him to accentuate the graphic dimension of his work. Paper becomes a space for experimentation where line and colour unfold with renewed freedom, giving rise to textured compositions that extend and reformulate the formal explorations developed in his painting.

Since the start of his career, Jon Koko has felt a deep fascination with Japanese visual culture, particularly the tradition of washi paper. This connection to Japanese craftsmanship is reflected in his meticulous work on handmade paper, created using pencil, oil pastels and watercolour. The coloured surfaces and the texture of the paper lend his compositions a new depth. Through the blending of materials, his contemporary approach to drawing engages with this traditional aesthetic, bridging the gap between heritage and the present.

For his part, Hugo Alonso takes his cue from film stills, which he manipulates and recomposes on paper. The use of an airbrush allows him to achieve a line that is both precise and blurred, creating drawings of great delicacy that intentionally blur the boundaries between drawing, painting and photography. Applied freehand, the line unfolds across the surface without direct contact, reinforcing a sense of lightness and suspension. With a restricted palette, he reduces the landscape to its essence, combining an economy of resources and colour with remarkable technical virtuosity.
