For the first artist soirée in our Turó Park location, we are delighted to welcome artist Aythamy Armas, who will be presenting ‘Temperature’. Color and composition are the main protagonists of this exhibition, which always revolves around movement, gesture, and rhythm.
With ‘Temperature’, Aythamy Armas returns to the essence of his work. Through color, the canvases are stripped of the different techniques and graphic resources to which we are accustomed. In their place, we find a single type of line, a single format, a single support, and a single technique, thus returning to the economy of means as a pure aesthetic and conceptual tool. There is no distraction beyond the stroke that occupies the viewer’s visual field. This time, color serves as the differential factor between one work and the next, almost like a panoramic view, an exploration of a landscape.
Over time, like small guest appearances and sometimes as recurring characters, other materials have emerged in Armas’ practice in the works of black charcoal on white support. These materials have faithfully provided a variety of resources, aspects, finishes, and different weights in the compositions. Pastel, spray paint, and ink offer different types of strokes that provide the works with a plurality of inputs that now intentionally disappear in this challenge of color, thus returning to that initial essence, to the origin.
This time, it’s not just the work itself that embraces the viewer in an immersive manner, but also the room transforms into an environment built by the sensations evoked by the colors. Almost like windows, panoramas of an imagined topography. The monochromatic works, created with pastels on cotton, fluctuate between deep and vibrant tones, each carefully selected to convey a specific feeling, an association.
This more simplified and concentrated approach to a limited set of elements constitutes the simplicity of resources, where the goal is to convey an aesthetic and conceptual expression using the minimum amount of necessary inputs through rigorous curation of chromatic theory.
Color and composition are the main protagonists of this exhibition, which always revolves around movement, gesture, and rhythm in the characteristic and inherent strokes of Aythamy Armas’ work.
“My work focuses on painting, in its possibilities and in the construction of compositions from the values and qualities of paint itself.
