Press Release

For the winter season opening, Alzueta Gallery presents for the first time in Barcelona Interlude, an individual exhibition by Emeca. This exercise of colour and light intervenes in the shorter days of the year, interrupting the winter darkness. The show will be open from 18 December 2025 to 20 January 2026. Here, Emeca invites us to pause, taking us away from the speed with which everything happens and is consumed – a pause that functions as a refuge toward the essential: colour and form as a territory of contemplation.

After a period characterized by the free flow of paint and gestural energy, the artist initiates a process of refinement. Shapes are organized, becoming geometric, and boundaries are defined. Colour – the unmatched main character of his language – does not overflow or expand without restraint; it is contained in blocks and precise cuts. Here, line and colour do not act as separate entities but rather blend to create open chromatic bands that float on a neutral background and seem to extend beyond the limits of the canvas. They possess an expansive strength that invites us to partake in the calm and balanced state generated by the artwork. There is temperance in this new phase, a serenity that encourages the viewer to stop, look and feel.

Interlude emerges as a reflection on beauty and its meaning in our frenetic world, where we rarely take the time to contemplate. Emeca wonders what still moves us, what remains when everything passes by so quickly. Confronting the anxiety of daily life and the pressure to be uniquely different, his works pose a silent resistance: that of the purest aesthetic experience, which evokes in the observer the most profound emotions.

In this meditative exercise, there is a connection between viewer and artwork: an instant to escape the giddiness of the everyday life. As the artist suggests, perhaps in times of speed and noise, art’s true revelry is to stop and look attentively.

About the Artist

Emeca’s work is characterized by the focus on large format painting, based on the coexistence between color, light and the composition of solid forms. His paintings have a chromatic strength that alludes to fields of color observed from above with a bird’s eye view, where lines and surfaces stand out in their contrasts. His inspiration comes from everyday activity and his aesthetic perception, capturing the essence of places and moments, where he finds unexpected combinations and textures.
