Press Release

Following the ‘T10’ series of presentations, artist Hugo Alonso exhibits a new series of never-before-seen small artworks that create a unique narrative; an homage to the iconic Barcelona metro ticket, symbolizing a journey through both space and memory.

Inspired by a journey to Ireland, this series capture the vastness of its cliffs through small-scale paintings that invite quiet introspection. Playing with the concept of the sublime—traditionally tied to monumental scale— Alonso paradoxically translates it into miniature-like dimensions, where the immensity of the landscape meets the intimacy of perception.

About the Artist

The last few years I have been working on a project in which I explore the relationship between cinematic reality and our everyday life. Also the possible analogies between the history of painting and cinema. The fiction in movies helps me to know the environment in which I live and to know myself. Movies are my source of visual and conceptual resources. I’m interested in our sense of permission with movies, how, due to their fictional nature, they approach unimaginable subjects within the social codes that make a reality such as ours remain regulated.
