Press Release

Alzueta Gallery presents Pius Fox’s T-10 project, created during his stay at the gallery’s artistic residency in La Bisbal d’Empordà. The project is now on view on the ground floor at Barcelona Sèneca through until April 30th.

Since my time here in La Bisbal, I’ve been fascinated by the light, the shadows, the river El Daró, and the site-specific tiles. The light here really is different—the height of the sun, the way it falls on the houses and is reflected back from them.

Working in a former ceramics factory and being surrounded by tiles has also inspired me. Doors and entrances are something I’ve always been drawn to, but here that interest has taken on a new intensity. These are geometric forms that I explore through painting fields of color.

What interests me is the moment when color shifts into spatiality—when it begins to create a sense of space—and when it develops depth. This can then become more representational or remain abstract.

In these ten works, and in all the works created here, I have tried to express this fascination. And of course, the light has also led to a more intense use of color.
