Beijing Commune is pleased to present Out of Place, a group exhibition featuring works by Chang Yuchen, Ge Yulu, Hu Xiaoyuan, Li Binyuan, Li Shuang, Edie Siyi Xu, Zhao Zhiliang, and Zhou Yilun, from 26 January to 2 March 2024.

Spanning sculptures, videos, installations, and site-specific paintings, the works on display open up a multi-layered experience tunnelling through different interfaces and portals: the screen, the lens, the curtain, and the door. While entrance often implies a metaphorical segmentation between the past and future, contemporary life dwells on the threshold, constantly prompting retrospection and prospection only to attest to their fecklessness and futility. Weaving a tapestry of ill-timed encounters, the exhibition spotlights a range of perceptions and adaptions, or non-adaptions, with the artists' works oscillating between metamorphosing and decaying, revelling and mourning, and remembering and forgetting.
