Once upon a time, people left for Kuwana, is the entrance to the country of Ise, after crossing the sea for seven miles from Atsuta in Owari Nagoya. It is said that being rocked by the waves is the same as performing a purification ceremony. The Ichino Torii also the first torii of the Ise Shrine, and at the same time as the ceremonial relocation, the torii of the inner shrine, Ujibashi, will be moved to the same location. This is the road to Ise now and in the past.
By fate, I was involved in the renovation of an old house of an old lumber dealer in Kuwana, which was revived as a hotel on this summer solstice. It was a wonderful experience for me to think about the house, the people, the town, and the time and culture that had passed in the past.
In the summer of 2020, in the empty time that has been left blank, I decided to change things up a bit and hold an exhibition in this time and space born of the warmth of learning from the past. The theme of the exhibition is "Weaven". From a collection of bamboo baskets knitted by the old and selected by connoisseurs. Works created by contemporary artists on the same theme will be displayed in the museum.
