BONGCHULL SHIN

Shin’s works are based on the principles of classical stained glass, yet in their conceptual orientation and final reception, they are works of light art that appear as mutable as they are ephemeral. For with every change in daylight, with every movement of the viewer, they alter their reflective form and reassemble themselves into ever-new structures of light, shadow, and void. This allows their aura to extend into infinity.

The carefully arranged glass cubes and cylinders serve less as self-contained, self-contained artworks than as catalysts for generating the profound concept of sublime colour and light art. The illumination, the material revelation of colour and light, their tangible, three-dimensional realisation, and The extension into the surrounding space defines the artwork—not the formal physical object.

Growing up on a flower farm in Suwon, South Korea, Bongchull Shin was shaped from childhood by intense experiences of nature and the cycles of life. It was the interplay of light and the variations of color that captivated him—and today form the essence of his art.
