On the occasion of Various Others 2023, we are pleased to present Ernest Dükü’s first solo exhibition in Germany. Ernest Dükü lives and works in Paris and Abidjan.
Born in 1958 in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, Dükü studied at the L’institut national supérieur des arts et de l’action culturelle in Abidjan, at ENSAD in Paris and at the Sorbonne.
His artistic work explores, in his words, ‘les non-dits qui encombrent nos mémoires.’ His artistic practice oscillates between sculptural and drawing works and painting. His world, his research, is symbols of many kinds: ‘I think that with symbols comes the memory of humanity.’
For the past year, Dükü has intensified his pictorial research in the ‘Black Series’. The anthropomorphic forms in the starry sky of the symbols, release a surrealistic dynamic, floating in the deep black surface. ‘The reality of the density of all things as that they all initially begin with the absence of colour.’
