Art Dubai Contemporary
Lawrie Shabibi is pleased to return to Art Dubai with an extensive presentation of the gallery’s contemporary program, showcasing artworks by Hamra Abbas (b. 1976, Kuwait), Shaikha Al Mazrou (b. 1988, UAE), Shahpour Pouyan (b. 1979, Iran), Larry Amponsah (b. 1989, Ghana) and Farhad Ahrarnia (b. 1971, Iran) among others.
Art Dubai Modern
For the Modern sector of the fair Lawrie Shabibi will showcase a survey of works by Mona Saudi from the late 1970s and 1980s, bringing together stone sculptures, coloured silk screens that incorporate text by Mahmoud Darwish -famed Palestinian poet and friend of the artist - alongside Saudi’s never-seen-before sketchbooks and drawings
Mona Saudi (b. 1945, Amman, Jordan – d. 2022, Beirut, Lebanon) studied sculpture at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris before moving to Beirut, where (with interruptions) she worked as an artist for more than five decades.
Saudi’s large scale sculptures adorn public spaces in Amman, and in Paris her Géométrie de l’esprit sits outside the Institut du Monde Arabe, the only sculpture allowed by architect Jean Nouvel to do so. Other works of hers are held at the British Museum, London. In 2018, there was a survey show of Saudi’s work at the Sharjah Art Museum.
