Press Release

Lehmann Maupin returns to Art Basel Paris (booth C35) with a presentation that features new and recent work by gallery artists. A focus of the presentation includes artists with major current and forthcoming institutional exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Anchoring the gallery’s booth are new works by French-Algerian artist Kader Attia, coinciding with his two-person exhibition with Elizabeth Peyton at the Louvre, Hosts at the Louvre, which presents works created during their two-year residency at the museum. For more than 20 years, Attia’s practice has been rooted in notions of injury and repair through works that span photography, sculpture, installation, and video. His work examines how societies and individuals bear the marks of historical trauma—and how those wounds are “repaired,” though never erased. Two new works on view extend Attia’s exploration of repair and draw on his Louvre residency. Inspired by the convex mirrors that appear throughout paintings since the 16th century, the works turn the viewer into part of the artwork, reflecting their presence back to them. The presentation coincides with Attia’s inclusion in the 61st Venice Biennale and comes ahead of his curatorial debut at the Kochi Biennale in 2027.

The booth will also feature works by several artists participating in this year’s Venice Biennale, including a new painting by Hernan Bas from his acclaimed Visitors series, recently presented in a solo exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro in Venice. Drawing on the city’s complex relationship with tourism—and his own recent residency there—Bas depicts tourists moving through a shifting landscape of bucket-list attractions, historic sites, sacred spaces, seedy entertainment venues, and curated encounters with the natural world. A series of new paintings by David Salle will also be on view, following his solo exhibition at Galleria Palazzo Cini earlier this year, alongside sculptures by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, coinciding with his solo exhibition at the Museo Fortuny in Venice. New paintings by Tammy Nguyen will also feature prominently in the presentation coinciding with her participation in In Minor Keys, curated by Koyo Kouoh.

A new work by Teresita Fernández will be unveiled alongside recent works by the artist, ahead of her highly anticipated site-specific commission for the Menil Collection, opening in fall 2027. Fernández’s installation will join the Menil’s distinguished group of single-artist buildings, including the Cy Twombly Gallery and the Dan Flavin Installation. Fernández’s practice is characterized by an expansive rethinking of what constitutes landscape—from the subterranean to the cosmic, from national borders to the more elusive psychic landscapes we carry within. Through luminous, sculptural works, she poetically challenges conventional notions of land and landscape, inviting new ways of considering the physical, political, and psychological dimensions of place.

Additional highlights include new and recent works by renowned Korean artist Do Ho Suh, presented alongside the artist’s major survey at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea, on view through 2027 and now slated to travel to M+ in Hong Kong and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT). New works by Rana Begum, McArthur Binion, Marilyn Minter, and Lari Pittman will also be featured in the presentation alongside works by Freya Douglas-Morris, Mandy El-Sayegh, Todd Gray, Chantal Joffe, Kim Yun Shin, Liza Lou, Mr., Catherine Opie, OSGEMEOS, Robin Rhode, Mickalene Thomas and Billie Zangewa.
