Press Release
Employing a kaleidoscope of pompoms, tassels and yarn, Troy Emery’s sculptures utilise the aesthetics of trophy animals and plush toys to explore and illuminate humanity’s fascination with the natural world.

Showcasing a new series of topiary-like works constructed from handmade yarn tassels, the colourful creatures in Paradise reference sources as diverse as Emery’s childhood stuffed toys and the taxidermied animals and birds in museums and natural history collections. Inspired by exotic and decorative textiles, Emery blends contemporary craft aesthetics with the often confronting traditions of taxidermy to create alluring animals that form a menagerie of strange and beautiful beings.
About the Artist

At the core of Troy Emery‘s ‘fake taxidermy’ sculptures is an interest in humankind’s relationship with animals. Often using materials that have been traditionally associated with craft, Emery explores the contrast between art and craft while contemplating the idea that animals serve as decorative objects for humans.
