Press Release

Japanese maples in their flaming Autumn colours mirrored in waterlily ponds, boughs of almond blossom, and lotus leaves reflected in pools of tranquil water are the three main themes in Tim Maguire’s latest exhibition at Martin Browne Contemporary, Sydney.

Painted using Maguire’s signature technique of layering the three colours used in commercial printing – yellow, magenta, and cyan – and then using solvent to dissolve and mix them to form all the colours of the spectrum, each painting nevertheless remains concerned with the two subjects that have fascinated Maguire throughout his career – the qualities of light, and memento mori, the passing of time.
