Press Release

Osnova Gallery is pleased to have participated in Encounters, a curated section of Unseen Photo at Art Rotterdam 2026, brought together by Milan-based curator Domenico de Chirico around the interplay between photography and other artistic practices. The gallery presented works by Alexandra Sukhareva and Inma Femenía — two artists who, in their own distinct ways, orbit photography without quite belonging to it. Sukhareva works with corrosive chemicals on large canvases, surrendering control to processes she can set in motion but never fully predict; her use of silver nitrate — the substance historically used to fix and reveal photographic images — quietly anchors her work within the history of the medium. Femenía approaches from the opposite direction: rather than working with light and chemistry, she asks what a digital image might look like if it crossed over into the physical world, using print to produce latex sheets that carry the logic and texture of the screen into something you can touch. One artist works with the chemical origins of photography, the other with its digital afterlife — and yet neither makes photographs. It was precisely this shared ambiguity that made their work so fitting for a section dedicated to stretching the boundaries of the image.
