Sabrina Amrani is pleased to present Dear, the third solo exhibition by UBIK at the gallery.
With Dear, UBIK deliberates on the state of art within India specifically, but these concerns are also universal in their critique of the arts and can be relatable in a worldwide level. The show comprises a collection of 80 videos that UBIK has been uploading to an Instagram account since 2017. Each video is designed in GIF format, but saved as .mp4 files, and responds to events and happenings in the art world that the artist reacted to.
Dear is an invitation to reflect on the art world dynamics and hierarchy: an exhibition about everything that the art world is supposed to be but is not. The works included in the show allude to the power of the art world agents and reflects on how art is consumed, collected and curated in the digital realm.
The exhibition attempts to examine the dialogue around various hang-ups of an art practice and how the digital world, and specifically social media, can be used as a format to open up this dialogue as a critique and cultural commentary.
Dear will also be on show in the Instagram account @dear_ubik, where the artist will continue to upload works until the end of the exhibition.
UBIK's practice concerns with the deliberation of texts, images, objects and environments. His work often oscillates between various spheres of the art making process. UBIK observes the possibility of constructing a narrative wherein the aesthetics bear resemblance to situations whose occurrences are mostly rooted within societal matters that concern our contemporary existence.
