Angéle Challier Fontaine Biography

Angèle Challier Fontaine is a multidisciplinary artist born in Lyon, France. After graduating with honours from the ESAD ESAD in Valence, Angèle went on to do a master’s degree in Visual Arts at ECAL. Angèle grew up in a craft environment, her mother being a ceramist by profession, she spent she spent a lot of time at designer’s markets and ceramists’ markets, in the workshops of craftspeople workshops.

When she was a teenager, she lived in the Croix-Rousse district of Lyon, home of the silk weavers and the and workers’ struggles. This environment was very much a part very much a part of her daily life, she began to wonder the place of women in this industry and the working working conditions in the days of the canuts. This atmosphere had a strong influence on her practice which, at the start of her studies at art school, was focused which, at the start of her art school studies, was mainly focused on handicrafts. Based in Lausanne, she continues to work and research her work and research on the notion of work in contemporary world.
