Artist BOO Jihyun (b.1979, Korea) graduated from the Department of Fine Art at Jeju National University, and received her M.F.A. in media print from the Graduate School of Design & Art at Sungshin Women’s University. Born in Jeju, installation artist BOO Jihyun gained the attention of the art world when she began using junk fishing lamps as her main medium in 2007. In the dark night, fish in the sea such as mackerel, hairtail, and squid see the light of these fishing lamps and gather around them. BOO uses fishing lamps that have reached the end of their life and are unable to light up any further to create installation works. The dreamlike, mysterious atmosphere evoked by her works awakens new aesthetic sense in the viewer.
